Most of the jewelry is handmade in Vietnam, with some pieces made in Los Angeles, stringing gemstones and pearls onto sterling silver, leather or cord so no two stones sit quite alike. The clothing plays ornament against restraint: feather trims, beading and whipstitched edges on simple, roomy shapes. It is all meant to be layered and worn for years rather than swapped out.

About Chan Luu
Chan Luu, a Vietnamese-born designer, worked as a buyer and ran her own boutique in California, where she began making jewelry to go with the clothes. Customers kept asking for the jewelry, so in 1996 she founded her label in Los Angeles.
Its calling card became the beaded wrap bracelet, stones stitched between strands of leather and wound around the wrist several times, a design she is credited with originating. Clothing, scarves and fine jewelry followed, all rooted in handwork.
