Manu Atelier makes leather bags by hand in its own Istanbul workshop, in clean, softly sculpted shapes that look calm but carry real craft.
Each bag is hand cut, edge-painted, shaped and stitched in the family atelier by artisans trained by the founders' father, a leather craftsman since 1961. The leathers come from certified tanneries, and the house shapes range from a slouchy, softly structured suede tote to a small round bag on a chunky chain: minimal lines with plenty to notice up close.
Sisters Beste and Merve Manastır launched Manu Atelier in Istanbul in 2014 to carry forward the craft of their father, who began working leather in 1961 and opened his first atelier above Istiklal Avenue. Its name is Latin for hand.
Its first bag reworked a structured top-handle design he had made decades earlier. The label later added shoes and softer, roomier totes, with the bags still made in the family's workshop.
From reviews and try-on videos, in our words.
Totes are sized for work: the 35 cm Le Cambon fits a 13-inch laptop and the 40 takes a 16-inch one, while the small round chain bag holds a phone, a slim cardholder and keys.
The suedes are unfinished aniline leather: very soft, but quick to stain and prone to slight color transfer, so blot water straight away and keep them clear of oils.
Owners praise the leather and the design, though a couple of recent reviews mention weak handles and worn corners after a few months of daily use.
The brown suede Le Cambon tote was the label's breakout on social media, and the brand calls it its most iconic bag; some styles are sold on pre-order.
