The buy: the sculptural alt-leather dress
the sculptural alt-leather dress
Nanushka cuts soft tailoring and its own alt-leather into relaxed, sculpted shapes: Budapest bohemia with a clean, modern line.
The signature is an in-house alt-leather made with recycled polyester, cut into dresses, skirts and jackets that drape and move instead of sitting stiff. Around it sit fluid dresses, wide trousers and knits, many deliberately oversized, with fabric blocking and handmade details, and most of the range is produced in Hungary, close to its Budapest base.
Sandra Sándor founded Nanushka in Budapest in 2005, building on her final thesis at London College of Fashion. It began in a small storage space beside her family home, with one seamstress and one pattern maker.
It grew into a Central European fashion house with menswear, accessories and homeware, known for relaxed tailoring, its own alt-leather and a bohemian take on minimalism.
From reviews and try-on videos, in our words.
Every product page spells out the fit: standard pieces match your usual size, while many others are cut close to the body or intentionally oversized, so read that line before you choose. Sizes run XXS to XXL.
Pieces in its Okobor alt-leather are dry clean only, and dark colours can rub off onto lighter fabrics, so wear and store them apart from pale pieces.
Orders ship from its distribution centre in Hungary, free to the US over $650. Its pages don't say whether US duties are prepaid, so check the total at checkout.
You have 14 days to start a return, and a small flat fee comes off every online return. There are no exchanges: send it back and reorder the other size.
