Why Frenken is worth it
Frenken bends classic menswear tailoring into something stranger: broad-shouldered blazers and pleated trousers with raw edges and inside-out seams.
Most pieces start from a man's suit, then the proportions shift: wider shoulders, deep pleats, wrap fronts and asymmetric fastenings that fold the cloth into soft sculpture. Fabrics run from wool flannel and pinstripe suiting to silk, linen and crisp cotton, though much of the suiting blends wool with polyester for shape. Most pieces are made in Portugal in small runs, and the finish holds up to a close look.

About Frenken
Dutch designer Erik Frenken launched Frenken in 2018 after years designing for other labels. He trained at Central Saint Martins in London, led womenswear at Viktor & Rolf and later directed the label Avelon.
His own line sets out to sit between the classic and the avant-garde, calling itself a house of creative classics: womenswear built on men's tailoring, with one unexpected detail in every piece. In 2019 he won a major Dutch fashion grant to develop it further.

Cuts are relaxed or oversized by design, and the blazers carry broad shoulders. Sizes run EU 34 to 42 (XS to XL), some styles from 32, and each product page says how the piece is cut; the model is 1.75 m and wears a 36.
