AKNVAS brings couture draping to dresses that go from desk to dinner: ballooning skirts, bows and pleats with real structure behind them.
Its founder learned to cut in Paris couture ateliers, and it shows in how the dresses are built. Much of the line is draped by hand on the mannequin, so skirts balloon, bows sit right at the waist, and shirring and pleats keep their shape. Technical taffeta, satin and lace hold the volume crisp, while the knits bring color and texture to the same polished, after-work idea.
Christian Juul Nielsen, a Danish designer trained in Paris couture houses, launched AKNVAS in New York in 2019. The name plays on the word canvas, the blank start he gives each collection.
It began with polished daywear for women heading straight from work to dinner, then grew more dramatic: draped cocktail dresses, corsetry and lace that carry couture technique into clothes made to be worn often.
From reviews and try-on videos, in our words.
Dresses and skirts come in US sizes 0 to 12, knitwear in XS to XL. Product pages give the model's height and size but no fit note, so check your measurements and ask the brand if you're unsure.
Most dresses are technical taffeta, satin or nylon lace and are dry clean only. Knits mix viscose and lurex, and a few use a wool and cashmere blend with hand-sewn beading.
Ships only within the US, with free UPS Ground on every order, Alaska and Hawaii included, and next-day air at checkout rates. There is no international shipping.
Return requests are due within 14 days of the order date, not delivery, and a $25 fee comes off the refund. Exchanges in that window are free; pieces must be unworn with tags on.
AKNVAS doesn't list fiber content, like “100% silk”, on most of its product pages, so we can't say what its pieces are made of. We checked 156 pieces in October 2026.
