Enaguas makes loose, hand-embroidered cotton tops and dresses in southern Spain, folk craft you can wear every day, with no two pieces quite alike.
Seamstresses in southern Spain sew every piece, often from cotton dyed by hand with natural dyes, and the embroidery is done by hand, so each top carries small differences. Cuts are relaxed and mostly one size, which lets the handwork lead, and some sets use cloth spun and woven on old looms, drawing on Spanish jackets of the eighteenth century.
Enaguas, the Spanish word for petticoats, was started by its founder, Lola, who travels to learn textile traditions and works directly with the women who weave and embroider.
The label became known for loose, hand-embroidered tops and dresses made by seamstresses in southern Spain, with some of the embroidery and printing done by artisan partners in Rajasthan and West Africa.
From reviews and try-on videos, in our words.
Most tops and dresses come in one size or in S and M/L, cut to be worn loose. Each product page lists measurements, and the team answers sizing questions by email.
Hand wash (some pieces allow a cold machine wash) and dry in the shade, since the natural dyes can fade in strong sun. Never iron straight onto the embroidery, and skip the dryer.
Some handwoven, hand-dyed pieces sell as pre-orders and are sewn after you order, so they take longer to arrive. Embroidery varies a little from piece to piece.
Orders ship from its atelier in Sevilla, Spain, and US shipping is free over $200; international delivery takes up to about a week. Duties on US orders aren't spelled out, so check the total at checkout.
Ask for a return by email within 15 business days of ordering, with the piece unworn and tagged. You pay return shipping, and archive sale pieces can't be returned.
