Heat-pressed pleated dresses and sets from Mexico City, sculptural and unisex, made for cosmic explorers.
Think: pleats for cosmic explorers
The buy: the wave-pleated tank dress
the wave-pleated tank dress
Nin Studio heat-presses deadstock fabric into wave and square pleats, making bold-printed dresses and tops that move with any body.
Every piece is cut by hand in Mexico City and pleated by a family business a short walk from the studio, and because the cut uses all of the fabric, the print lands differently on each one. The pleats give stretch and shape without fuss, across mock-neck tank dresses, cropped tops, wide trousers and roomy jackets, many cut to work on any gender.
Nothing from Nin Studio is on the site at the moment. We watch their sales and new collections — when one lands it shows up in Drops.
Brittany Maton, an Australian designer, started Nin Studio in 2018 while living in San Francisco and making ceramics; the name comes from her brother's childhood nickname for her.
Her first pieces were cut by hand on her apartment floor, and the label grew in Mexico City around pleated, often unisex clothing made with local sewing and pleating teams and mostly deadstock fabric.

No refunds unless an item is faulty or damaged. Full-price pieces can be exchanged or swapped for store credit within 7 days, minus shipping, and an exchange to the US is charged $60 in shipping; sale pieces can't be exchanged.
Sizes run US 2 to 10 (XS to XL), but each style carries its own advice: size up for a looser drape, size down between sizes on some tops, and men usually size up on unisex pieces.
Hand-wash cold without a long soak, or use a cold delicate cycle; some pieces are dry clean only, and colors can bleed. Prints vary from piece to piece because each is cut by hand.
Orders ship from its Mexico City office and arrive in about 4 to 7 business days. Duties and taxes aren't covered, so a US buyer pays any that apply on arrival.
