The buy: the minimalist leather tote
the minimalist leather tote
The Row does minimalism at its most exacting: spare, precisely cut clothes in exceptional fabrics, and soft leather bags and flats that never shout.
Most pieces are made in Italy, with denim from Japan, in cashmere, wool, silk, cotton and supple calf, lamb and goat leathers. The cuts look simple until you wear them: double-faced cashmere coats that fall loose and boxy, relaxed trousers, knits with a close, second-skin feel. The bags are soft, unfussy calfskin and the flats are pliable enough to feel like slippers, which is why its shapes are so widely recognized.
Nothing from The Row is on the site at the moment. We watch their sales — when one lands it shows up in Drops.

It's been 48 weeks since the last one against a rhythm of about every 26 weeks — they're due.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen founded The Row in New York in 2005. It started with Ashley's search for a perfect T-shirt, tried on women of many shapes and ages, and the label borrowed its name from London's Savile Row.
A seven-piece first collection followed in 2006. From there it grew into a house of women's and men's clothing, knitwear, bags and shoes, plus a children's line, with discretion as its point of view: the cut and the fabric do the talking.
From reviews and try-on videos, in our words.
Fit is set piece by piece on its product pages: the Stella suede slipper is marked one size down and the soft nappa loafer one size up, while the double-faced cashmere coats are cut oversized and boxy.
The matte calfskin on its totes darkens into a patina with light and scratches easily, and the soft nappa on its loafers has no protective finish, so keep both away from water.
The Margaux bag has gone fully sold out on the brand's site before, in every color and size, with no waitlist. Sold-out pieces carry a Notify Me button, and customer care can check whether a store has one.
US standard shipping is $20, free over $1,000, and express is $35. Some orders leave from its Italian warehouse, but the brand covers duties for US buyers, so nothing is due on delivery.
You have 14 days from delivery to return, and the brand pays for the return label from the US. Refunds go back to your original payment, though the shipping fee is not refunded.
